Is “unique” a euphemism??
The lovely Anne at I’ve Read This nominated me for the Unique Blogger Award and set me some questions aaaaages ago, so first of all many thanks and many, many apologies for taking so long to reply! I feel totally honoured!
The rules of the award are as follows:
The Rules:
• Share the link of the blogger who has shown love to you by nominating you.
• Answer the questions.
• In the spirit of sharing love and solidarity with our blogging family, nominate 8-13 people for the same award.
• Ask them three questions.
Just to be different, Anne asked me four questions – what a rebel! But then, she’s Canadian…
So here goes!
1. How many hours per week do you spend on your blog?
Approximately 168. My daily schedule is as follows:
- 3 hours reading
- 1 hour writing and drafting posts
- 4 hours looking for suitable pictures
- 2 hours updating my TBR spreadsheet
- 6 hours poring over everyone else’s posts and sobbing about how easy you all make it look
- 8 hours having horrific nightmares about the exponential growth of my TBR…
(Suitable pictures…)
2. Can you read more than one book at a time?
Well, it depends on what you mean. I usually have three books on the go – a hefty factual tome which I read in the afternoon when my brain is theoretically at its most alert; a “serious” fiction which I read in the early evening when I’m ready to relax but still awake enough to concentrate; and something light – usually crime, or occasionally sci-fi, for late at night when my braincells have declared an all-out strike and gone off up the dancing without me. But if you mean one book for each eye plus an audiobook, all simultaneously, then I have only one thing to say to you – what a great idea!! I’m going to practice that…
3. How much do you hate finding copy errors (spelling mistakes, etc.) in a published book on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being I don’t mind at all, and 10 being you hate it with a fiery rage?
Personally, I think that’s a crime so heinous that a special punishment should be devised for the perpetrators. I’ve had some thoughts on the subject and come up with a few options…
Being forced to read Moby Dick. Twice.
Being taken to visit a chocolate factory but not being allowed to try any of the samples.
Being made to spring-clean the houses of everyone who has spotted the errors.
Being made to listen to re-runs of Comrade Trump’s “greatest” speeches.
And for really serious repeat offenders…
Being forbidden to watch Pride and Prejudice for five whole years.
4. Why are cats so awesome?
I was going to say “because they’re fluffy and cuddly”, but Tuppence wasn’t at all pleased with that answer – she feels it undermines her status. So she’s decided to answer this question herself by pointing out what she feels are the main feline contributions to human happiness. Over to you, Tuppence!
1) Philosophy – we have discovered the true road to happiness and are only sad that humans are, frankly, too stupid to have worked it out for themselves. Twenty hours sleep per day, an hour cumulative of eating time, and three hours of pestering people just when they’re trying to relax. It’s so simple, really, but then, so are humans.
2) Art – some fools humans think we’re just messy when we scatter cat litter all over the floor, but if they had any true discernment, they’d realise we’re actually creating wonderful abstract mosaics for their pleasure and intellectual (and olfactory) stimulation.
3) Healthcare – we routinely check the circulation of our pet humans by opening a vein and ensuring the blood flow is strong. Plus, by making sure we do this just after creating one of our abstracts, we ensure our humans are motivated to keep their tetanus shots up to date.
Go on, tickle my tummy! I dare you…
4) Sport – we worry that our humans don’t seem to be very agile nor have very good reaction times, so we help to keep them supple by ensuring they fall over us on a regular basis, preferably when they’re half-way down a flight of stairs. This is great for improving their balance, and for helping them build up a tolerance for pain.
5) Wealth – by treating our human servants as the utterly inferior and, frankly, stupid species they are, we help to keep them meek. And, as we all know, the meek shall inherit the earth. Which, you must agree, is a pretty good return for the small investment we ask them to make on cat treats and toys…
Oh, excuse me, I’d go on, but I see it’s my nap time, and anyway, my servant has to go and admire my latest artwork now…
* * * * * * *
Thank you, Tuppence – it’s so good of you to take time out of your busy schedule to give us the benefit of your superior wisdom. And talking of healthcare has reminded me – time for your worming tablet, I think!
Aaaarghhh! No!! I’m sorry! Please!! Not the laser eyes!!!
* * * * * * *
Thanks again, Anne – Tuppence and I had a lot of fun doing this!
I nominate everyone who leaves a comment, and here are my three questions…
1) Red panda or ring-tailed lemur?
2) Aragorn or Boromir?
3) Long shorts or short shorts?
I enjoyed reading your post especially on the punishments lol.Tuppence is deep 🙂 Great post.

Very good of Tuppence to help you with this post, FictionFan. I love your answers to the questions, too, especially that one about finding editing errors in books. Just…..perfect! And I know just what you mean about the TBR….

It was intriguing how well Tuppence managed to use the keyboard – I suspect this could be the reason for my TBR crisis! Haha – the chocolate punishment might be a bit mean, but I’d reserve that for really bad errors… 😉

Glad you enjoyed it! 😀 Haha! I suspect all our cats are in a secret society – they probably all chat on our computers when we’re asleep…

The punishments you suggest are perfect! And your blogging timetable mirrors mine…
I love Tuppence – she is so right, cats keep us humble and real. And they have sussed out life far better than any of us humans!
As for answering your questions, here goes:
1) Red panda – prefer shy rather than cheeky
2) Aragorn – just look at those cheekbones!
3) Normally, longer shorts but with Rafa, I am in a quandary…

I thought the chocolate one might be a bit cruel, but it should act as a deterrent. 😉 The blogging timetable is frighteningly close to reality some weeks! Tuppence certainly rules the roost around here – Tommy and I know our places…
Red panda for me too – the cutest thing imaginable. Definitely Aragorn, oh yes! Yeah, I get nostalgic for the long shorts and cut-off tops sometimes…

Congrats on your award, FF — well earned! Love how you’ve given the dear Tuppence an opportunity to expound on the awesomeness of cats. Wow, she’s got all that down pat, doesn’t she? Dallas does the “try to make Mama fall” stunt, too, and it’s not fun. Especially on the stairs! As to your questions — (1) Red panda (2) Aragorn (3) Short shorts (how did he ever play tennis in something that fell about the knees??!)

Thank you! I’ve always wanted to be unique!;) Tuppence definitely knows how the world works and who’s in charge around here! I used to be terrified when my mother visited and went upstairs – Tommy’s lethal unless you’re well-trained to look out for him! (1) Yes! (2) Yes!! (3) I don’t know – I get kinda nostalgic for the long shorts and muscleman shirts…

So I can avoid nomination, ( decisions far too stressful) this isn’t really a comment, it is a straight copy of Marina Sofia’s perfect answers. Oh, and Tuppence shows such a fine logic, sensibility, creativity . What a remarkably coherent cat, and so thoughtful in the medical regimes and checkouts she insists on running with you.

I’m always so grateful that I have Tuppence to look after me! I don’t know how I survived at all before she took charge of my life. To be fair, she sometimes delegates the medical tests and stair-tripping to Tommy – it’s a team effort…

Great post. Harri was here with me whilst I was reading and concur 100% with Tuppence’s helpful responses. (She has now wandered off, with an irresistible artistic urge claiming her full attention.)
Great questions.
1. Red panda – though I don’t want to hurt the lemur’s feelings. The lemur is lovely too.
2. After a looooooong look at the two options (during which Harri completely lost interest) my vote goes where it was always going to go: Aragorn. But I had to look at both of them for a very long time, just to be sure, right?
3. Less ogling – I mean, serious perusal – for this one. Long shorts on Rafa. (Short shorts on Pat Cash just in case you were wondering. I took a look at him too, to be absolutely sure.)

They seem to feel like being artistic awfully often! I suspect they’re all in a secret society, but whether for good or evil I haven’t yet worked out…
1. Agreed, though I’m partial to both little critters…
2. Oh, yes, it’s important not to rush these decisions! In fact, you may want to mull it over and check out a few pictures from different angles before you fully commit…
3. I loved the long shorts too, and of course the muscleman shirt – suited him so well! But in general I tend to go for the mid-length – I’ve never really recovered from the ultra short era of Connors and McEnroe…
Thanks – it always good to start the weekend with some intellectual debate… 😀

Haha great answers and congratulations on the award! I particularly love Tuppence’s answers which Bonnie, my own furry dictator, whole heartedly agrees with 😀
1. Ring-tailed Lemur because all I can think of is that hilarious hopping, sideways walk they do!
2. Aragorn. Boromir is no competition however his brother on the other hand… 😉
3. Short shots as I involuntarily wince on their behalf when the men reach for long shots!

Thanks – glad you enjoyed it! 😀 I think all the cats are in a secret society out to control humanity by nefarious means!
1. I was once at a zoo when the lemurs escaped into the grounds and were jumping around the trees – it was so exciting and so much fun! It was only later I realised the zookeepers were so relaxed about it that it must be something they let the lemurs do every day to entertain the customers… it was still fun though!
2. Ooh, yes! Another Faramir fan! He’s my second favourite after Aragorn!
3. I don’t know – I get nostlagic for Rafa’s long shorts and sleeveless tops…

I’m using my writing time by writing demands of impeachment! That man must be stopped… I no longer feel sorry for Spicey. He sold his soul and integrity to the devil. No one should be surprised by this disaster. The people who are surprised were the ones not paying attention. We need better education, clearly.

I just resort to twitter trolling. Yup! And yet people are better educated todat than they’ve ever been – or, at least, more people are educated. It’s the fundamental problem with democracy, I’m afraid – too many voters don’t take responsibility for making sure they’re well informed. The suffragettes must be revolving in their graves…

I fell about laughing this post, starting with how long you spend on the blog.
1. the red panda, love the tongue poking out.
2. Aragorn. Swoon…
3. Short shorts, of course.

1. Red panda because the lemur has a creepy stare.
2. Aragorn!
3. Long shorts, though it really depends on who’s wearing them 😉
Congrats on your unique award! I also would wonder, “What do you mean by unique?”

1. Ha! I live with Ms Laser-Eyes Tuppence so I guess I’m used to creepy stares…

3. Normally I’m a mid-length fan, but I miss Rafa’s long shorts and sleeveless top look… *sighs*

Brilliant post and those punishments take some beating – woe betide anyone committing that sin! On the other hand your time spent on your blog sounds very familiar although I haven’t got drawn down the picture route so I save a little there – short shorts every time!!

Thank you! Haha – the chocolate denial seems harsh but some crimes require harsh punishments! Normally I’d agree about the short shorts (though not TOO short) but I do get nostalgic for Rafa’s original look sometimes… 😉

This is priceless (as usual)! I love those punishments – I choose having someone come over to clean my house, so I have more time to read. (I’m surprised by the number of mistakes I see. Imagine if I had someone come over to clean whenever I found one – I would never have to clean again!)
My cats would completely agree with Tuppence – especially on #4. My younger cat, who is still very cuddly, could add that instead of drawing blood after “making his art”, he likes to test my reaction to putting his paws right in my mouth… if I don’t catch him first. Perhaps another test for reaction time?
1. Red panda
2. Aragorn
3. Long, I think…

Haha – thank you! 😀 Yes, I quite fancy the house-cleaning punishment too – and believe me, it would be a harsh punishment for the person who had to clean up my house! 😉
Awww, sweet! My boy likes to knead my knees, but he does it facing away from me so that I get his bottom right in my face. I often say that if I had to pick him out in a line-up I’d have to get them to turn all the cats round first…
1. Agreed.
2. Agreed!
3. Agreed!! In Rafa’s case anyway – otherwise medium-length for me…

Definitely Aragorn- would anyone pick Boromir?
